This event will be hosted by J/22 fleet 73, at the Buffalo Yacht Club's new facility and in conjunction with the Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club. The local fleet of J/22's has grown to over 30 boats. The regatta, conveniently scheduled the weekend before the Level regatta in Youngstown allows J/22's from other cities to bring their boat to the Buffalo/ Niagara region and participate in two great regattas! The Event in Buffalo will begin on Friday evening with a BBQ, the racing starts Saturday morning, followed by an awesome party at the Buffalo Yacht Club, with a dinner and Raw Bar being offered, of course with a great band and great fun. Sunday it will be back out to the race course for more great sailing on Lake Erie, followed by the awards ceremony.
The Buffalo Yacht Club recently finished the installation of two fully automated three ton cranes and the completion of a dry sail area. Fleet 73 members now have the option of dry sailing their boats at the BYC and the fleet now has the facilities available to run a first-rate regatta for out of town boats.
The fleet sails on Tuesday nights from the end of May into the month of September as part of the Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club’s China Light/One Design program, regularly drawing over 20 J/22’s for the evening’s two races. The fleet also sails on Wednesday nights as a one design fleet with the Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club, with considerably less attendance, due to a number of skippers with larger boats that race in other fleets. Once the official races end, the fleet continues to sail Saturday mornings into the fall.
